manager September 6, 2010 tony mccray this is really a good LCD for the price. It has an excellant picture on it for the price. I would buy it again if given the choice.
couldn't be happier and it works just fine with my PC! August 7, 2010 George K. Thiruvathukal (CHICAGO, IL, US) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After reading some of the reviews, I thought that this has got to be the most mediocre product in the world. So I almost talked myself out of this purchase. Yet the price point was so compelling that I figured, what the heck? Amazon has a great electronics return policy.
Some reviewers have commented on problems connecting their PC and having the image be truncated at the borders. After experiencing this problem myself, I did the unthinkable and read the manual, which is included on a CD accompanying the monitor. It makes it clear that the HDMI is for devices that produce video output only. Now you might say, this is a dealbreaker, and you'd be wrong, especially considering the nominal use to connect a PC and perhaps 1-2 other HDMI devices. There is a DVI input, specifically aimed at handling output from a PC. A simple HDMI to DVI cable (available on here or cheaply at a, which has an HDMI port, place like MonoPrice) will do the trick. I already had the HDMI to DVI adapter sitting here at home.
So I am now able to connect both my Zotac MAG barebone system (it has an HDMI port) and my MacBook Pro (it has an included mini-DVI to DVI adapter) to this display. I'm particularly impressed with the video quality, not to mention the ability to switch easily between the PC and Satellite TV or DVD player.
There's no doubt that this might not be the absolute best HDTV monitor available in terms of picture quality. But it's certainly one of the best in its class. I basically was looking for a sub-$400 monitor to replace my computer monitor upstairs and actually constrained my search to this price range ($300-$400).
So this might be one of those times where it pays to read the manual. I know that notion is falling a bit out of fashion these days. My review is probably closer to 4 stars but there are some particularly negative reviews here that need to be averaged out.
unlike other reviewers. I actually bought this July 31, 2010 J. Silvia (Denver, CO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm using this on my PC along with an ATI HD4650 video card. This looks AMAZING in 1080p on my PC. If you're planning on using this for a 1080p monitor you will NOT be disappointed.
Another reviewer complained about text and pixel pitch- He couldn't be more wrong. If you plan to use this for your PC monitor you need to make sure your video card supports 1080p resolution!!!!
I've also got this connected to a Comcast HD Cable box- also looks great and works well.
The built in speakers are pretty much junk- other than that, this is a great buy!
Could be the BEST July 17, 2010 nutzj98 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
Basically, this monitor is beautiful! If you have appropriate video hardware in your machine, adjust the settings correctly, and have material worth viewing, there isn't a better monitor (with this many options and connections) for the price. Beyond that, find somebody to help you set this baby up and help match video hardware before complaining.
I have had a chance to play with this monitor quite a bit and have read at least 100 reviews. The only reason a purchase has not been made is talking it out with you know who.
The reviews on Amazon sadden me due to the fact that people either do not understand how to use it or they don't know what to look for.
A previous reviewer claimed that the video was split incorrectly on the screen and maybe even flipped. This is a common problem at the theater for new projector techs. It can be a couple different things but usually resolution and signal settings will fix that problem.
Another review claimed that text looked awful at his local electronics store. You have to understand that most people at your local shop are not technicians and are not geeks. The fact that they set this monitor up on a machine that was not configured to operate it correctly nor was it able to show it's true beauty is a terrible mistake. Even today, your average desktop PC will not come out of the box ready to make a monitor like this shine.
Overall the only reason this product did not get 5 stars is due to the fact that it's marketed (such are all oversize LCD's) towards a very broad audience. Many of which simply do not understand that you can't just buy a bigger screen to get better quality. This is just an illusion that the cable and satellite companies hand you since their hardware can adjust to accepting almost any signal and making it look great on any screen. Try to remember the good ole days of crappy cable on 42" projection TV's and you'll see why this just don't work.
not usable as a computer monitor June 26, 2010 E. cohen (Seattle, USA) 5 out of 13 found this review helpful
This may or may not be a good video monitor (there are lots of inputs), but it is not a computer monitor.
I used an HDMI cable to connect to my laptop, turned off my laptop display, and set the resolution to 1920x1080.
The top and bottom of the display were off the screen and the text was very poor quality. I looked around the monitor menus for any settings to manually or auto adjust. I discovered that just about all the menu controls are oriented towards TV and video settings. I noticed that Windows 7 had labeled the monitor as Analog HDMI, whatever that is.
Could this be an artifact of digital rights management lowering the output signal quality?
I checked the same laptop and HDMI cable with an ACER monitor that has 1920x1080 resolution and the image was excellent.
